SCTA takes over Al-Saqqaf Palace
Filed under NewsMar 11JEDDAH/MAKKAH – The residence of late King Abdul Aziz, the historic Al-Saqqaf Palace in Makkah, has been taken over by the Supreme Commission of Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) for restoration and preservation, under an order from Crown Prince Sultan.
The palace will be open to the public when maintenance and renovation work has been completed. The Crown Prince has donated SR2 million to the cause.

JEDDAH – Prince Mishal Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, has promised severe punishment for those who are found to have intentionally harmed the historic area of Old Jeddah.
He said that directives have been issued in this regard.
The governor was speaking during a visit to the area on Tuesday along with Prince Sultan Bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA). The governor said that an inspection will take place next week and electricity will be cut off from all houses that have wiring flaws. “The houses here are not only for their legal owners but for everyone. We need to preserve them for our children and grandchildren so they can see the history of their city, and for that we need everyones cooperation,” Prince Mishal said.

GCC scouts on visit to explore heritage
Filed under NewsFeb 14JEDDAH: A group of 35 scouts from Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other GCC countries will visit Jeddah on Sunday as part of the “Explore the Kingdom’s Heritage” program.
The team, which will be accompanied by Muhammad Al-Amri, executive director of tourism and antiquities in the Makkah province, will visit a number of historic places across the city.
The scouts are visiting Jeddah as part of a Kingdomwide tour to understand antiquities in Saudi Arabia and promote the first conference on architectural heritage in Islamic countries that is to be held at the Riyadh International Exhibition Center from April 18 to 23.

Saudi to #8216conquer Argentine summit
Filed under NewsFeb 10RIYADH: A Saudi explorer is preparing to leave for Argentina where he plans to climb Mount Aconcagua. “I am doing this to mark Crown Prince Sultan’s safe homecoming. Also, I will be focusing on the cause of disability awareness,” said Ibrahim Hulayel Al-Mutairy, who will leave for Buenos Aires via London on Wednesday.
He told Arab News that as part of his mission he would put the Saudi flag on the top of the mountain, along with photographs of both the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince and the logo of the Saudi Society for Disabled Children.

RIYADH: The Kingdoms tourism sector got a major boost with the announcement on Sunday of a plan to issue new regulations to streamline the operation of hotels and furnished apartments.
The new regulations have been issued by the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA). The body, which is empowered to cease or issue operational permits to tourist facilities and hotels, has also announced it has taken over four important archaeological sites at a cost of about SR19 million. The sites are to be restored and developed for tourism. Payments have been made on the instructions of Prince Sultan bin Salman, SCTAs chief, said Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Ghabban, SCTAs vice president.
It was also announced Sunday that the SCTA is to hold an international convention on urban heritage in Islamic countries, and cultural, social and economic development from April 18 to 23.

Ranias educational reform program lauded
Filed under NewsFeb 6AMMAN: Jordans Queen Rania accompanied Princess Hessa bint Salman in a visit to the Queen Rania Family and Child Center in Jabal Al-Nasr, Jordan, on Wednesday.
Princess Hessa lauded the queens services to the Madrasati educational reform program in Jordan and other establishments aimed at serving the society. The queen and princess were briefed on various services offered by the center, such as counseling, legal advice and health treatment to families and children.
The royal visitors also attended a drama titled Body Movement, in which a group of children participated, representing the services offered by the center in educating and training through the medium of drama. They also watched the interaction of children in a workshop entitled Me and Those Around Me.

Top cities to have heritage sites
Filed under NewsJan 14RIYADH: The Kingdom plans to establish heritage sites in the hearts of major cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, Hofuf and Taif.
These projects are carried out for the economic development of the country and they will preserve and project its cultural identity, Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Charitable Heritage Foundation said, Tuesday.
He was at a ceremony at the Hamad Al-Jasser Hall at King Saud University where he distributed architectural heritage prizes named after him. Investment opportunities for companies including the construction of heritage hotels and infrastructure facilities will be available, he added.

RIYADH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) signed an agreement with the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice for joint cooperation in the development of the Kingdoms tourism sector and coordination in programs and related activities.
The agreement was signed at the SCTA headquarters by Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of SCTA, and Abdul Aziz Al-Humain, president of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, on Tuesday.

JEDDAH: Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Charitable Heritage Foundation, will attend on Tuesday a ceremony at King Saud Universitys Hamad Al-Jasser Hall to distribute prizes named after him on architectural heritage.
Osama Al-Jowhari, secretary-general of the Prize Committee, said the prize is aimed at enhancing public awareness to take care of architectural heritage and encouraging students and researchers to show greater interest in the topic.

RIYADH: Umrah pilgrims will in the near future be targeted for medical tourism, a concept that is to soon witness a strong boost in the Kingdom, said Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).
Prince Sultan made the comments during a lecture at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on the invitation of the Prince Sultan bin Salman Award for Youth Business Entrepreneurs of the RCCIs Youth Business Committee.
