Work begins on five regional museums SCTA
Filed under NewsAug 29JEDDAH: The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities has begun building regional museums in Dammam, Abha, Hail, Tabuk and Baha, Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the SCTA, said on Sunday.
“We have also completed studies on renovating six museums in Domat Al-Jundal, Taima, Al-Ula, Hufouf, Sabya and Najran,” he said, stressing SCTAs efforts to make museums part of Saudi culture.
Prince Sultan commended Mohammed Jameel, president of Abdul Latif Jameel Group, for donating SR10 million to develop the Fed Heritage City in Hail.

Prince Sultan personally failed to find a seat to AbhaJEDDAH – Prince Sultan Bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, has admitted that even after a decade of the establishment of the organization, the Kingdoms tourism industry “is less active.”

Diriyah now World Heritage Site
Filed under NewsAug 1Riyadh – Al-Diriyahs Turaif District has been approved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Prince Sultan Bin Salman, chairman of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, announced Saturday night.
The approval was granted by the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 34th meeting in Brasilia, Brazil.

Al-Diriya makes UNESCO heritage list
Filed under NewsAug 1RIYADH: Al-Diriya Palace and the Turaif Quarter of the town of Al-Diriya located on the northwestern outskirts of Riyadh and which served as the capital of the Saudi royal family from 1744 to 1818 have been included in UNESCOs World Heritage list.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, head of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), made a formal announcement about the UNESCO approval here on Sunday.

Roads of Arabia draws large crowds
Filed under NewsJul 22RIYADH – The “Roads of Arabia: Archeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” exhibition currently on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris is drawing large numbers of visitors who include French nationals, other Europeans and people from different parts of the world.
The exhibition displays 300 artifacts which represent the archaeology and history of Saudi Arabia from prehistoric times to the dawn of the modern world.

RIYADH: Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled on Wednesday highlighted the great attention of the Saudi government to disability and the disabled as could be shown by the number of centers established for them.
“The Saudi leadership headed by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has spared no effort in extending support for a better and more meaningful life for the disabled,” he said.

RIYADH – Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, has affirmed that the exhibition “Archeological Masterpieces of Saudi Arabia Through the Ages” sends the world an important message about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its cultural potential and its history of hosting a number of civilizations and political and economic centers.
The exhibition also reflects the important role played now by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince, which qualified it to play an important role at international political and economic arena.

Kingdom abundant in artifacts Sultan
Filed under NewsJul 16JEDDAH: Artifacts displayed at “Roads to Arabia” exhibition in the Louvre Museum in Paris represented only a small portion of historically important relics excavated in the Kingdom in recent years, said Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, on Friday.
“What is presented at the Louvre represents only one percent of antiques excavated in the Kingdom, or less than that,” the Saudi Press Agency quoted the SCTA chief as saying. “We are planning to conduct excavations in more historical sites this year with the help of national and foreign teams,” he said.

Prince comforts his storyteller of the sea
Filed under NewsJun 17YANBU – He was a diver and fisherman and used to be the storyteller of adventures at sea that the Prince enjoyed listening to a long time ago whenever he visited Yanbu.
Now the storyteller Awda Al-Hibaishi, 85, has just lost his wife, his lifelong partner.
But he would not suffer the loss alone. Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majed, Emir of Madina, traveled all the way to Yanbu to personally comfort the man who used to tell him adventure stories of the raging Red Sea at his small grocery store in the Lail (Night) Market in Old Yanbu.

Care for heritage culture highlighted
Filed under NewsJun 5LONDON – Prince Sultan Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities and President of the Heritage Charity Foundation, Friday delivered a lecture on “Dimensions of Heritage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” at the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies here. Prince Sultan Bin Salman highlighted Saudi care for heritage and culture and pointed out progress in the Kingdom. He reviewed archeological sites in various parts of the Kingdom and talked about efforts to protect the national heritage of the Kingdom. – SPA
