Swine flu toll rises to 98
Filed under NewsJul 3RIYADH: The Ministry of Health announced yesterday nine more people tested positive for the swine flu virus, bringing the total number of people infected in the Kingdom to 98, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Eighty of the swine flu patients have recovered and are leading normal lives while all remaining cases are stable and expected to fully recover after treatment, the statement said.

Return of Al-Ais dwellers delayed
Filed under NewsJun 24MADINAH: The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has advised indefinite postponement of the return of evacuees from Al-Ais and surrounding villages following tremors of varying degrees in the area over the past few days.
There was a general agreement among members of the task force who include representatives of SGS, the General Directorate of the Civil Defense and earthquake experts on delaying the return of residents evacuated from Al-Ais and villages close to Harrah Al-Shaqah, Zuhair Nawab, chief of SGS, said in a statement.

Geologists to discuss future of the Earth
Filed under NewsMar 8JEDDAH – A group of geologists from 17 countries are set to discuss on Monday the future of planet Earth at the eighth International Geology Assembly.
The event, which will be opened by Prince Mishal Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, has been organized by the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), in tandem with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, King Abdul Aziz University and the Saudi Society for Geosciences.
SGS president Zuhair Bin Abdul Hafeeth Nawab said the scientists would discuss the development of groundwater resources, the Arabian-Nubian Shield – an exposure of Precambrian crystalline rocks on the flanks of the Red Sea – mineral waste management and environmental geology, sediment and petrol geology, earthquake and volcano hazards, mineral exploration, dynamic and structural geology and geographic information systems.

Conference on earth science
Filed under NewsMar 4JEDDAH – The 8th meeting of the Saudi Society for Geosciences under the theme “Serving the Earth” will be held here at the Hilton from March 9 to 12 by the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) with the collaboration of the Ministry for Mineral Resources and King Abdulaziz University.
The four-day event will be held under the patronage of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, and will be inaugurated by Prince Mishal Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah.
