New CBSE system to reduce stress
Filed under NewsFeb 3JEDDAH: Reforms are to be introduced in schools affiliated with India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and located in Gulf countries, including the Kingdom.
The CBSE has, starting from the 2010-2011 academic year, decided to introduce an international curriculum for schools affiliated with its program outside India, said sources. The pilot projectwill be introduced in 25 schools for classes 1 and9. International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) is one of the schools that have been selected.
Salahuddin Kardan, chairman of the management committee of the IISJ, confirmed that his school is one of the pilot schools. “I’m hoping that the results will be very effective,” he said.

RIYADH/JEDDAH/DAMMAM: Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad on Wednesday assured the community that he would make efforts to take his countrys multifaceted relations to a new level.
Speaking at Indias 61st Republic Day celebrations in Riyadh on Tuesday, he promised to render the best possible services to the Indian diaspora in the Kingdom and address their grievances.
Ahmad hoisted the Indian national flag in the morning at the Indian Embassy premises in the Diplomatic Quarter amid resounding applause. Ceremonies were also held in the Eastern Province and in Jeddah where Consul General Sayeed Ahmed Baba unfurled the national flag.

Indians mark R-Day with patriotic fervor
Filed under NewsJan 27JEDDAH – With the same enthusiasm and patriotic fervor that marks the day back home, the Indian community in the Kingdom that comprise about 1.8 million expatriates, celebrated their countrys 61st Republic Day Tuesday.
In one of the largest celebrations of its kind, the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) hosted a program Tuesday that began with the hoisting of the Indian flag by Indian Consul General Sayeed Ahmed Baba, followed by the singing of the Indian national anthem. In keeping with tradition, Suraiya Baba, the consul generals wife, was requested to release white pigeons, symbolic of freedom and peace.

IISD to celebrate Indias Republic Day

The ceremony will begin with Mohammad Asghar Khan (chairman of the schools managing committee) hoisting the national flag. Principal Dr. E.K. Mohammed Shaffe will read out the Presidents message. Alphons Kannanthanam, member of Kerala Legislative Assembly, former IAS officer and Commissioner of Delhi Development Authority, will grace the ceremony as guest of honor. – SG

LONDON – The first environmental, social and governance (ESG) index of Middle Eastern and North African companies is due to be launched later this year – two years after it was first announced.
The Dubai-based Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance, index and ratings provider Standard & Poors (S&P), and Credit Rating and Information Services of India Ltd. (Crisil) are developing the index, which will be based on constituents ESG performance, Environmental Finance Publications reported Friday.
“The index will help some 400 listed companies in 11 countries better understand environmentally and socially responsible investment practices, and the importance of implementing sound corporate governance,” International Finance Corporation (IFC) said, the private sector arm of the World Bank, which is supporting the indexs development.

Celebrating the Lankan Toastmasters

Through its member clubs, Serendib Toastmasters helps community members learn the art of speaking, listening, and thinking.
The envoy was the chief guest at the induction ceremony of the clubs new office-bearers and its 8th anniversary celebrations recently. Sabarullah Khan, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Sri Lankan Embassy, was the guest of honor.

Students hit by lack of transport facilities
Filed under NewsDec 24JEDDAH: Parents from girls elementary schools in Jeddah are complaining that students are suffering from a lack of transportation. They claim schools situated in neighborhoods with narrow or busy streets are worst affected.
Neighbors, shops and companies have also raised similar concerns. The parents say the lack of transport facilities leave them concerned for their childrens safety when walking on the streets.

Quality education for expats children assured
Filed under NewsDec 21RIYADH: The Kingdom is keen to provide quality education to expatriates children studying in international schools in the Kingdom, said Moiz Al-Qahtani, supervisor general of foreign schools at the Ministry of Education, here on Friday.
The official made the keynote address at the annual awards ceremony of the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh. Sri Lankas Ambassador to the Kingdom Ahmed Aflel Jawad was chief guest at the function held under the chairmanship of the schools Principal M.E.M. Farook.
