    MAKKAH – On behalf of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, will open the International Islamic Conference here on Saturday.

  • MoH signs work contracts with medical specialists

    RIYADH – The Ministry of Health has signed work contracts with specialist doctors. The signing of the contracts is part of the ministrys temporary medical support program. The recruited doctors will be required to work in the hospitals run by the ministry to boost the health services provided to citizens.

    The ministry has completed coordination steps taken with the Jordanian Ministry of Health for signing partial contracts with the second batch of 25 specialist doctors of both sexes. They will start work in the hospitals of the border regions between the two countries. These include Al-Qurayyat General Hospital, Prince Abdul Rahman Al-Sudairi hospitals in Sakaka, Tabarjal and Arar, King Khaled Hospital in Tabuk, Maternity and Childrens Hospital in Al-Jouf and Turaif Hospital.

    JEDDAH: Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif will open an international Islamic conference organized by Muslim World League (MWL) at the Guest Palace in Makkah on Saturday. The three-day conference is being held to mark MWLs 50th anniversary.

    MWL Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki said the conference would highlight the organizations achievements over the past five decades in terms of spreading the message of Islam and extending support to Muslim minorities worldwide.

  • Young Saudi impersonator caught

    JEDDAH: An 18-year-old Saudi man reportedly tried to deceive security guards at a mall in Jeddah by telling them that he is a prince and is one of the entourage of a high-ranking prince in Jeddah and that he wanted to enter the mall, the police announced Friday.

    The police said the guards were suspicious and informed them of the case. The police said they arrived and arrested young man.

    RIYADH – The Riyadh Festival, inaugurated by Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Emir of Riyadh, is receiving an overwhelming response from both citizens and expatriates, said Hussain Bin Mushayt, Manager, Department of Tourism at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

    In the first two weeks after opening on July 7, the Riyadh Festival attracted more than 600,000 people at Al-Ghornatah Shopping Mall alone.

  • One dies as car collides with truck

    JEDDAH – A Saudi woman died on Tuesday when the car she was traveling in collided with a water tanker truck on Prince Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Road. Eyewitnesses said the truck driver was traveling at a “crazy speed” and jumped a red light before it crashed into the car which contained two passengers. Rescue services cut free the body of the woman and the driver was rushed to hospital. A police spokesman said the driver of the truck was taken into custody and can expect to face criminal charges. – Okaz/SG

    TABUK – Visitors to Prince Fahd Bin Sultan Public Park in Tabuk say they are “shocked” by the conditions they find, but insist that there is no alternative in the area for people to “get away and find a change of scene”.

  • Deadline set to finish road work in Madina

    MADINA – Emir of Madina Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz has given the Madina Mayoralty a 15-day deadline to complete construction work on an underpass linking the intersection of King Abdul Aziz Road to Prince Abdul Majeed Street, known earlier as Al-Hezam Street.

    The Emirs decision was announced after an inspection tour Monday and a meeting with parties responsible for the delay in finishing the project that began in 2005.
