France sets up cultural pavilion at Janadriya
Filed under NewsMar 19RIYADH – A chorus of Pays-Basques singers greeted King Abdullah when he visited the French pavilion on the opening night of the Janadriya festival Wednesday.
He was welcomed to the pavilion, decked out by mini-Eiffel Towers and French-style cafes, by French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand.
In an address Mitterrand praised the Kings promotion of traditional Arab culture, adding: “France, also with age-old traditions… shares with your majesty this unique message.”

Sign language training program concludes at JCCI
Filed under NewsMar 19JEDDAH – A one-week sign language training program for media women and social workers organized by the Deaf Club of Jeddah with the cooperation of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) concluded here on Wednesday. The program, under the patronage and sponsorship of Princess Sitat Bint Abdullah the CEO of the Supreme Council of the Deaf Club for women in Jeddah and a member of the Arab Federation for the Deaf, aimed to increase the number of people in the media and social work organizations capable of communicating with deaf people.
A similar one-week training program for men will be held starting from Mar. 27.

JEDDAH – The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), recently signed contracts worth SR145 million, to establish 4 new provincial museums in Saudi Arabia in Baha, Tabuk, Hail, and Dammam. The four museums are scheduled to be established over a period of two years.
The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of King Abdul Aziz Historical Center in Riyadh with representatives of four companies that will be executing the establishment of museums nationwide in attendance.

Prince Naif in Tunisia

Sprawling science oasis coming up in Riyadh
Filed under NewsMar 18RIYADH – Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Riyadh Region, Tuesday night laid the foundation stone of the Prince Salman Science Oasis spread over an area of 200,000 sq. meters along King Abdullah Road in the capital.
Businessmen have put in SR400 million to create the oasis. The Supreme Commission for Riyadh Development Authority will design and build the park that would initially include administrative buildings and eight thematic show halls on earth, space, water, life, energy, technology, awareness, and three dimensional art.

US Consulate celebrates National Day

The event also celebrated the 65th anniversary of the historic meeting on Feb. 14, 1945 between King Abdul Aziz and President Franklin Roosevelt aboard the USS Quincy.

NEW YORK/VIENNA – Oil prices settled near $83 a barrel Wednesday after crude inventories grew less than expected last week, and the stock market rose on the Feds promise to keep interest rates at record lows.
Benchmark crude for April delivery rose $1.23 cents to settle at $82.93 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Sasref launches ultra-low sulfur diesel unit
Filed under NewsMar 18RIYADH – Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery (Sasref) has inaugurated its ultra-low sulfur diesel unit at the refinery in Jubail.
The new line has started commercial production of about 100,000 barrels per day of low-sulfur diesel fuel with less than 10 parts per million sulfur content.
“The start of the ultra-low sulfur diesel unitreinforces our strategy to keep pace with future trends and comply with environmental and marketing requirements, which will help Sasref to maintain its competitiveness as one of the leading refineries in the Middle East and Asia,” said Sasref president Abdulhakim A. Al-Gouhi.

Anti-terror e-channel moves into TV
Filed under NewsMar 17MADINA – Muhammad Al-Aqla, President of the Islamic University in Madina, has said that the universitys Internet channel dedicated to fighting terrorism is to be turned into a satellite television channel.
Al-Aqla said the university has a comprehensive plan for the channel to confront “all forms of terrorism” and that it is also involved in “promoting dialogue culture and sound Islamic methods”.

Saudi domestic travel to boost revenues in 2010
