AL-MUDHNIB/SAMTA – Two boys have died in accidents that could have been prevented, officials said.
A stray bullet pierced a 10-year-old boy’s head after one of his relatives handled a gun he did not realize was loaded and another drowned in a water tank, according to officials.
Family members rushed the boy to Al-Mudhnib General Hospital, about 120 kilometers from Qassim, but he was pronounced dead before admission, officials said.
Lt. Col. Fahd Bin Ali Al-Habdan, spokesman of Al-Qassim Region Police, urged people to be careful with firearms and ensure that they are only handled by people who know how to use them.
He said possession of firearms and keeping them within reach of children has caused many accidents.
Meanwhile, another boy drowned in the water tank at his home in Al-Muwassam town, Samta, in the Jizan Region. The boy’s family rescued him from the bottom of the tank and took him to Al-Muwassam General Hospital, but he had died before they arrived there, officials said.
Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Directorate of Civil Defense in Jizan Region, said the Civil Defense team in Al-Muwassam received a report that a boy was brought to Al-Muwassam General Hospital after he drowned in a water tank at his father’s house.
A Civil Defense officer arrived at the hospital and wrote a report and the boy’ s body has been handed over to the farter after he admitted that the boy’s death was an accident.
Al-Qahtani called on parents to watch their children, tightly close covers of water and septic tanks and maintain them. – Okaz/SG
