Lawyers plan to meet in October
Filed under NewsSep 2JEDDAH: The National Committee for Lawyers plans to organize a national meeting in Jeddah in October. The major topic of discussion would be the King Abdullah Project to develop legal facilities and the Court of Grievances.
It will also discuss how the reforms will affect the courts, the relation between the lawyers and the security departments, the impact on human rights and the future of commercial courts and importance of the spreading the culture of law abiding, said Majed Qarub, chairman of the committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Al-Kasabi is adviser at crown princes court
Filed under NewsAug 31JEDDAH: Majeb bin Abdullah Al-Kasabi has been appointed adviser at the court of Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah made the appointment by issuing a royal decree.
Al-Kasabi holds a doctorate degree in engineering from an American university. He has worked as a lecturer at King Abdulaziz University and secretary-general of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

Ramadan traditional expo starts tomorrow
Filed under NewsAug 22JEDDAH – “Originality of the Past and Present of Ramadan”, is the theme of the second exhibition of heritage and traditional products of Ramadan, which will start Monday in Jeddah.
The four-day exhibition will be held under the patronage of Princess Nouf Bint Muqrin Bin Abdul Aziz, with the participation of 100 women designers.
A total of 50 handcrafts producers, five charitable societies and beauty clinics will display handmade products, such as food, womens clothes, antiques and handmade gifts.

JEDDAH – Saudi nationals have called on Engineer Adel Fakeih, the newly appointed labor minister, to introduce the necessary regulations that will ensure the Saudization program creates jobs for many thousands of unemployed citizens.
Fakeih should also create opportunities for Saudi women to be employed in various industries.

New labor minister to learn by listening
Filed under NewsAug 20JEDDAH: Newly appointed Labor Minister Adel Fakieh, who stepped down this past week from his position as Jeddah mayor, told Arab News on Friday he would spend some time learning and meeting with experts to help him achieve the goals of his ministry.

JEDDAH – New Labor Minister Adel Fakeih is seeking advice and sound opinions from everyone to help him work effectively in his new position and improve labor-related matters in the Kingdom.
Fakeih, who had been serving as Jeddahs mayor, spoke following his appointment Wednesday by King Abdullah to replace Ghazi Al-Gosaibi who died earlier this week.
Fakeih said his experience working with businesspeople, as the chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and then the mayor of Jeddah, would be valuable in his new position as he works to help employers and workers.

Orphans to get IT training with job prospects
Filed under NewsAug 16JEDDAH: Orphans from Albir Society Jeddah have an additional reason to celebrate the ongoing month of Ramadan after it was revealed that 200 of them will be given technical training courtesy of electronics giant Samsung.
They will be given training in information technology, communication skills and personality development as part of a yearlong program announced by Samsung at a ceremony at the societys premises on Sunday.

Saudi girl 12 wins Sony creativity prize
Filed under NewsAug 7JEDDAH – Sarah Al-Amri, a 12-year-old Saudi girl, has won the first prize in the sixth edition of the Sony Contest for Scientific Creativity for inventing a robot that serves coffee.
Sarah received her prize from Prince Muhammad Khaled Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, President and CEO of Al-Faisalia Group. The prize comprises a check for SR10,000 and a one-week trip to Japan.
Before the awards ceremony at the headquarters of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sarah told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that since she was a little girl, she was always curious to know how household electrical appliances, especially TVs and blenders, worked.

JEDDAH: Members of the Customs Clearance Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) have protested against a new rule banning them from speaking directly to the media without the prior permission of the JCCI.
“The new regulation, which amounts to gagging our mouths, is wrong and does not serve the interests of traders or the JCCI. We are now living in a world where there are a free media that lead to improved services,” said Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Aqili, chairman of the clearance committee.

JEDDAH: An official at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) said on Sunday that consumers should complain less about seasonal price hikes for food and other products and consider their brand loyalties instead of demanding government intervention.
“I really doubt that traders can get away with raising prices without losing customers and ruining their businesses,” said Faisal Bataweel, manager of the Corporate Social Responsibility at JCCIs Social Security Department.
