    BURAIDAH – Beggars may soon find themselves facing legal action in the Qassim region following a new official order to combat this increasing phenomenon.

    The move was taken during a meeting Tuesday of the regions government, headed by Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, the Emir of Qassim.

    Beggars found on the streets, near shopping malls or at mosques will first be warned. If they fail to heed the warning, the police will arrest them. They will then be investigated by the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution in preparation for a court trial.

  • Lawyers seek security jail regulation implementation

    BURAIDAH – A meeting of lawyers in Buraidah on Saturday called for regulations giving them access to security, investigation and prison authorities to be put into effect.

    The third Lawyers Meeting, backed by the regional Emir Prince Faisal Bin Bandar and with Muhammad Al-Isssa, the Minister of Justice, in attendance, issued a list of recommendations calling for lawyers to be provided with Ministry of Justice and Board of Grievances publications and circulars, waiting rooms linked to courts by computer, and the selection of a lawyer in each region to represent colleagues at the Ministry of Justice and intervene on their behalf.

    Other recommendations seek the inclusion of lawyers in drafting regulations, statutes amendments, and periodic meetings with judges, and also urged the release of a Lawyers Commission Regulation to “enable it to perform its constructive role in serving justice”.

  • Call for probe into Buraidah hospital

    BURAIDAH – Citizens are calling for the Ministry of Health to launch an investigation into the state of King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah because of deteriorating conditions at the facility.

    This is the same hospital where a woman, Nada Ibrahim, died recently after a medical error during an operation to remove her gall bladder. The hospitals Shariah committee is still investigating the matter.

  • Medical error kills woman in Buraidah

    BURAIDAH – A medical error at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah in the Qassim Region on Monday, has caused the death of 24-year-old Nada Ibrahim Al-Thuwaini. This was during surgery to remove her gallbladder.

    The doctor who performed the operation has admitted his mistake in “cutting the womans aorta while removing the catheter used in the operation.”

  • Governors call for balanced development

    MAKKAH: A meeting of provincial governors in Makkah on Saturday called for balanced and comprehensive development of the Kingdoms regions, keeping in mind the interests of citizens and residents.

    The meeting, which was chaired by Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif, emphasized the need to develop the entry points on the Kingdoms land border, an official statement said.

    The meeting discussed ways of further improving services to citizens and residents by making use of modern technology as well as linking governorates with an electronic system, it added.

  • King tells governors to improve welfare

    MAKKAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on Saturday urged provincial governors to work to further improve the welfare and well-being of citizens.

    More efforts should be made for the progress and prosperity of the country and its people and to improve the level of developmental and living services, the king said during a meeting with the governors at Al-Safa Palace.

    He hoped that the meeting between Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif and the governors would achieve the desired goals.

  • Qassim varsity seeks support from industry

    AL-RASS: A broad range of topics related to linking Qassim University to the industrial sector will be presented at a symposium organized by the university at Al-Rass city today.

    Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar will attend the opening of the three-day event, which is aimed at creating effective partnerships between the university and the private sector, said Khaled bin Abdulrahman Al-Hmoody, rector of Qassim University.

    Tunisia will be the guest of the event, Al-Hmoody said, adding that the country will present its experience in attracting industrial investment for research partnership.

    BURAIDAH: Saudi Arabias initiative to set up an international center to combat global terrorism, which was suggested at an international conference on terrorism held in Riyadh 2005, has been reconfirmed and reinforced at a pan-Arab scientific symposium at Qassim University yesterday.

    The symposium was organized by Naif Arab University for Security Sciences in cooperation with Qassim University with the support of Qassim Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar.

    JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday extended by four years the terms of several governors and top officials including Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman, Eastern Province Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Fahd, and Prince Turki bin Sultan, assistant minister of culture and information.

    Other princes and officials who received extensions were: Prince Abdul Rahman, deputy minister of defense and aviation, Prince Badr, deputy commander of the National Guard, Prince Ahmed, deputy minister of interior, and Habeeb Zain Al-Abidine, undersecretary at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.

  • King Erdogan discuss truce

    RIYADH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan here yesterday on global efforts to end the Israeli military aggression against the Palestinians in Gaza and establish peace in the Middle East.

    The Saudi-Turkish summit talks coincided with a telethon ordered by the king to raise funds for Palestinians affected by the Israeli attacks. King Abdullah launched the fundraising campaign by donating SR30 million. Interior Minister Prince Naif and governors of the Kingdoms 13 regions supervised the campaign that collected more than SR95 million by midnight.
