JEDDAH – An official source said that the Primary Commission for the Settlement of Labor Disputes in Jeddah has issued a decision to reinstate Dr. Muhammad Shawoosh as Executive Director of the Al-Amal Hospital, with full powers.
Al-Amal hospital hit the headlines recently after a number of drug addict patients “escaped” from the facility, in the wake of reports of corruption and poor treatment of patients.

Riyadh mall bans smoking
Filed under NewsJun 1RIYADH: Sahara Mall, one of the largest malls in Riyadh, became the first shopping complex in the Kingdom yesterday to prohibit smoking on its premises to mark World No-Tobacco Day.
Declaring Sahara Mall a smoke-free complex, Dr. Khaled Al-Zahrani, assistant deputy minister for preventive medicine, called on other malls to follow suit. In his brief speech, he stressed that innocent children become victims of passive smoking, while smokers ruin their own health.
Considering the enormity of the problem in the Kingdom, he said the Ministry of Health has established a separate department to combat smoking in the Kingdom.

No-Tobacco Day Events lined up in all regions
Filed under NewsMay 31RIYADH: The Kingdom, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), has lined up a series of programs through its 20 health regions to observe World No-Tobacco Day today.
Deputy Governor Prince Abdulaziz Al-Khobairi will inaugurate a weeklong program to observe the day in Makkah.
Al-Khobairi will launch the program at the Ministry of Education in order to reach students, said Dr. Sameer Al-Sabban, supervisor general of the antismoking campaign in Makkah province.

Hospital closes ward for treating women addicts
Filed under NewsDec 31JEDDAH – Womens ward at the Amal Hospital, a drug addiction treatment center, was shut down after over two years of operation due to limited number of women addicts at the ward, said Sami Badawood, Director of Jeddah Health Affairs Management; a decision that sparked a reaction from a human rights body.
The admission applications to the womens ward were very limited, he said.
