86 Saudis complete job-oriented courses
Filed under Education, EmploymentMay 13DAMMAM – Eighty-six young Saudis who have completed courses in accounting, computer applications and marketing – three job categories now highly in demand in the local labor market – will graduate from the Dammam Community College (DCC) on Tuesday, May 19.
Most of the positions in accounting, computer applications and marketing in local companies are occupied by foreign workers. The graduation of the 86 young Saudis will further increase the number of Saudis in these fields in local companies in fulfillment of the Saudization program of the Ministry of Labor.

MAKKAH – King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah has allocated 30 percent of recently announced job opportunities to women.Khalid Al-Sumairi, Director of Health Affairs in Makkah Region, said the jobs, which involve secretarial work, medical register archiving and support services for women, constituted 30 percent of the 1000 jobs announced so far. Al-Sumairi said that women would be given even greater opportunities in the future. Al-Sumairi said that half of the applications received online had been looked at and that the names of candidates who had been given preliminary acceptance would be announced in the next few days. Applicants will undergo an English language test, an interview to assess the applicants conduct, and a computer skills examination. – Okaz/SG

Private sector hires 17000 Saudis in 2009
Filed under EmploymentMay 8DAMMAM – The acting director of the Labor Office in Dammam, Ahmad Al-Obaid, has said that there are 1,943 vacancies in private sector firms awaiting Saudi men and women. “Were working on creating new jobs in companies,” Al-Obaid added. Over 17,000 Saudis have been hired by the private sector since the beginning of 2009, according to Al-Obaid, who went on to say that the Labor Office had carried out 1,192 inspections and received 53 complaints brought by groups of individuals against private sector companies, with accusations including arbitrary sacking and delays in pay among other complaints. – Okaz/SG

One million jobs to be created in Makkah
Filed under EmploymentApr 25JEDDAH: An economic study suggests that Makkah province has the potential to create one million jobs over the next 10 years, Al-Madinah daily reported.
The study outlining the strategic plan for the development of Makkah province provides the road map for the projects that could be undertaken in the province providing employment for one million Saudi youths in 10 years, Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh, who is also the chairman of the Economic Committee of Makkah Province, said in a workshop on the economic situation of the province organized by the mayoralty on Wednesday.
The study was undertaken at the directive of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and prepared in collaboration with Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA). The tourism sector has the highest potential for development and employment in the region, as the number of foreign visitors to the region would grow annually at the rate of 8 percent and the number of domestic visitors would grow at the rate of 3 percent. The number of foreign tourists in 2007 was 6.5 million and domestic tourists was 1.4 million in the same period, the report noted.
