• Swine flu toll rises to 98

    RIYADH: The Ministry of Health announced yesterday nine more people tested positive for the swine flu virus, bringing the total number of people infected in the Kingdom to 98, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Eighty of the swine flu patients have recovered and are leading normal lives while all remaining cases are stable and expected to fully recover after treatment, the statement said.

    Mild tremors jolt Al-Ais

    JEDDAH: The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) said yesterday it continues to register tremors in the area around Al-Ais. In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the SGS said geologists recorded a dozen mild tremors within a 24-hour period ending noon Tuesday with the strongest of them measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale. Other conditions around the Harrah Al-Shaqa volcanic fissure remain stable.

    Two killed in house fire

    JEDDAH: A mother and child died in a house fire in the southern Al-Hindawiya district of Jeddah on Wednesday, Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. The womans husband and three other children managed to escape, but the mother and her son, whose age was not disclosed, succumbed to smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital. The Civil Defense is investigating the cause of the fire.
