Shoura Council members seek details of FM broadcasts
Filed under NewsJul 3RIYADH: The Shoura Council has called on the Ministry of Culture and Information to provide it with the precise details of FM broadcasts from the precincts of the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh.
The call was made last Sunday when the council discussed a report submitted by the Culture and Information Committee.
The Shoura members wanted to know if the FM stations were being operated with licenses issued by the ministry. They also demanded an explanation from the Ministry of Culture and Information for delays in responding to applications for licenses to launch new publications or in making appropriate decisions on the matter.
The members further called for steps to speed up the conversion of government-owned television and radio and the Saudi Press Agency into public entities in line with the orders of the higher authorities.
Such a change would eliminate most of the shortcomings and obstacles that hinder media activities and upgrade the media service, they said.
Abdul Aziz Khoja, minister of culture and information, said on an earlier occasion his ministry was working on converting Saudi television and radio and the SPA into public establishments.
