Saudi Interpol warns against online fraud

Posted by

RIYADH – Saudi Interpol has warned the public of email messages from outside the Kingdom asking people to accept transfers of large amounts of money to their bank accounts – with a variety of spurious justifications given for the necessity of such an action – in return for a percentage of the sums transferred. Interpol said that anyone receiving such correspondence should “ignore the message completely to avoid falling victim to acts of swindling usually committed in the name of international organizations and charities or well-known persons in order to earn the trust of the message receiver.” Upon receiving money, the original sender of the message reportedly “cuts off all communications” and it becomes “difficult to locate them and get the money back.” – Okaz/SG
